Import users from CSV

Bring your whole team in from a spreadsheet in one pass.

2 min read

When you have more than a handful of people to add, import them from a spreadsheet in one pass instead of typing each one. The importer lives under Settings, then Users, behind Import users, and it creates a user and sends a set-password email for every accepted row.

Start from the template

Choose Download the XLSX template. The file has two sheets: a Users sheet with the columns and one example row, and an Instructions sheet describing every column and its allowed values. Fill in the Users sheet with any spreadsheet app and keep the header row as it is.

  • Required: first name, last name, email, software role and country profile.
  • Optional: company role, team, start date, date of birth, number of children, education level and previous experience. Blank is fine.

Email must be unique in the workspace, and the country profile, team and company role are matched by name to what already exists, so set those up first.

Upload and preview

Drop the filled-in .xlsx back onto the importer. Ferio parses it and shows every row in a preview with a status: valid rows are ready, warnings import with one optional field left blank (an unmatched team or role), and errors cannot import (a missing required field or an unknown country profile). Fix the sheet and re-upload as many times as you need before committing.

Only valid rows are imported. Nothing is created until you confirm, so a preview full of red is safe to walk away from.

Confirm the import

Click Import users to commit the valid rows. Ferio creates each user, emails them a set-password link, and then lists any skipped rows with the reason (duplicate email, unknown country profile, and so on) so nothing is dropped silently. To add people one at a time instead, see Invite your team.
